Bargain Buy [$5 pillow] + Guestroom Revamp checklist

I love pillows. I am a sucker for an unnecessary throw pillow. every. single. time. It never fails. I think I come home with a pillow every couple of weeks! Just ask my husband. They are a fun accessory and can be the perfect finishing touch to any room. Pillows can completely transform a piece of furniture, even a small chair. The best part – they don’t even have to break the bank! This is why I stand my ground on my madness for buying them all of the time. Pillows can make such a statement and are one of those things you can easily change out with the seasons for a fresh, updated look.
So, in honor of a good pillow find, I thought I would share my latest – a $5 pillow I scooped up while at Target yesterday. I know, right?! $5! It was on clearance from $16.99 which is still an excellent bargain.

I totally heart the gray herringbone pattern and the teal stitching detail is pretty great too. I guess I am kind of into herringbone right now – remember my linen closet wall?! I have only bought pillows from Target once before, but have been totally impressed with their selection lately!
If all goes as planned, this pillow will land on the bed in the guestroom. One of these days.

I have mentioned this room before, but didn’t explain much other than it is brown & burgandy and pretty dark & dreary [how could it not be with those colors?!] So this guestroom is one of my main “refresh” projects currently underway, but it is moving along rather slowly. I am not in a huge rush because it really is fully functioning in it’s current state and the star of the room isn’t quite ready to head on in there just yet! The whole room is going to be revamped all because of a little $4 green chair. I first mentioned it here and then again in my fabric inspiration post and after last night’s upholstery class, I have to say it’s looking even better than I thought it would! Now, I am starting to pull accent colors from the chair fabric to add pops in the room through pillows, art, etc. and the hunting has begun! Since I love to make lists AND share things with you all, here is what I am thinking for this space:

It might look like a ton of work & cash money, but I am planning to use most of what I have, as far as furniture, but do some updating [painting, new hardware, etc.] As for the rest of the items, I hope to score on sale or DIY. My goal is to give it a light, bright and fresh look, but do so on a budget. This room hasn’t been touched since we moved in 3 years ago and not a single new thing was purchased for it, so I feel like its time. Not to mention, it might be the only room in the ENTIRE house that I haven’t laid my decorating hands on over and over again 🙂

I’m planning to share my finds and DIY projects along the way and hope to have the room finished up sometime in April.

The whole upstairs is in the midst of a facelift as all of the trim is being painted white. It already feels so much lighter and brighter with the hallway and a couple of the bedrooms done. I can’t wait for the full effect!

In other news, we are in full-fledged potty training mode around here and it is actually going AWESOME! The first day was a headache, but it has been smooth sailing since. Knock on wood. I am so proud of my little big guy!
