12 Days of Christmas 2015 Tour Highlights & Link Party

12 Days of Christmas Tour of Homes – Check!

How is it possibly December 16th already? Is your shopping done? Is your house holiday guest ready?!!

Our house may be ready to rock & roll, literally, a party is set-up and ready to bust out right by the front door, but I’ve still got some shopping (thank you, Amazon Prime 😉 ), wrapping and food prep to do as we are hosting my family on Christmas Day.

If you are looking to make a few tweaks to your decor, add a bit more umph or just gather ideas for a pretty table setting, then you are in LUCK! Today, I’m going to be sharing some highlights from the 12 Days of Christmas Tour and I promise the inspiration will just keep on a comin’. If you haven’t decorated at all yet, I think you could scoop up a number of quick & easy ideas to zhush up the house just in time for company!

If you’ve decked your halls and (everything else in its path!) and want to share your home with US, then we are inviting you to link up with us at the bottom of this post at our 12 Days of Christmas Tour of Homes Link Party!
12 days of christmas tour of homes 2015 highlights - 2015Let’s head back to Day 1 and see where the tour began…

Jenny, our fabulous host & fearless leader from Evolution of Style has wowed us each and every year of this tour and this year was no exception! Every single inch shouted classic elegance!
DSC_0180I had to share this shot because, well, its beautiful, but also because I am in love with this silver champagne bucket she scored at HomeGoods. Sorry, Jenny, if it goes missing! That and all 12 of your gallery wall prints 😉

When Amanda from Dixie Delights shared her stylin’ Southern home, I instantly fell madly in love with her Christmas tablescape.
DSC_0194-copyPattern play at its finest. There can just never be too many prints (or too much plaid) in one space!

Moving on to Day 2…Vel from Life & Home at 2102 shared her spectacular home in all of its holiday glory.
DSC_0956Her home was decorated to the nines and it looked beautiful! And you should see this room at night – magnificent!

Tamara from Provident Home Design created the most calm & soothing fireplace moment among her pretty pre-existing color palette.
Christmas-Home-DecoratingWho wouldn’t want to curly up by this fireplace with a book and a cup of coffee?! She also shared the cutest little mud closet decked for Christmas, too.

Excuse me, Miss Pretty in Christmas Pink?! Pam from Simple Details added the sweetest pops of pink mixed with classic greens throughout her gorgeous home. From bows to flowers to her ornaments.
Christmas Home Tour - Dining Room - Buffet StylingThe chic pink was fabulous! I, of course, am obsessed with the abundance of black, white and gold decor, too.

Its a capital “P” when it comes to the personality in Paige, The Pink Clutch‘s home and Christmastime is no exception.
_MG_0647From the vintage ornaments…the fun pops of color…to the adorable pink bows everywhere! Plus, another favorite spot of mine, the his and hers Bourbon bar – what a cute touch!

Get ready for another fun twist on the traditional Christmas colors! Becky from This is Happiness does it oh-so-right with a red and blue combo. The bold pops with plenty of plaid to go around…
christmas table 14Such a beautifully timeless look. The fresh greens compliment the bright red and deep blue so perfectly. You definitely want to go see the rest!

Not only are the photos of Lauren from Bless’er House‘s Christmas Home breathtaking, but the words of her message are so honest and sincere.  You definitely want to stop over to read a beautifully written story…
Christmas-Tour-2-of-46Natural elements and simple, thoughtful touches are all throughout. What a special place for her family to celebrate together!

I love how Amanda from The Tale of an Ugly House puts thought into each and every nook in her home. These shelves are ever-so-delicately decorated with the cutest Christmas touches.
IMG_5647This spot and her entryway are just a couple of my favorites in her holiday home!

Mary Ann from Classic Casual Home showed us a peek into her San Francisco apartment and even a glimpse into her master bedroom.
IMG_9484What a lovely “NOEL” garland hung over the bed. Sometimes it’s the smallest things that have the greatest effect.

Cassie from Primitive and Proper shared her kitchen and dining room and you may have seen this shot that I shared on Instagram last week, but I fell head-over-heels in love with her tinsel tree and vintage Santa!
IMG_8862I’ve decided I just have to have one next year! A tinsel tree and a cute old Santa 😉

I love how Lisa from Shine Your Light (as did several others) shared her front porch as part of her tour – those black urns, the greens, the wreath, gold bow and.that.black.door! oh my!
IMG_2036What a stunning sight! I know, I know. I do love our front door, but I think I love hers, too! The contrast of the black on the white is perfection!

I’m pretty sure I could make this my work-space. I mean, right?!
Our-home-office-decorated-for-the-holidays-gallery-wall-wrapped-gifts-advent-tree-World-Market-table-cowhide-rug-jute-rug-and-wingback-chairYou know I go ga-ga for a gallery wall, so when Kris from Driven by Decor shared this one in her holiday home, I wanted to scoop it up and plop it right into MY home! Her cute Christmas tree and beautifully styled buffet is just as wonderful!

Erin and Tricia from Suburban Bitches totally nailed it! Plus we got to see BOTH of their homes in this tour – score! This room in Tricia’s home is one of my favorites!
Tricia23I love the neutral space with the pops of blue. Stunning tree, a simple “JOY” sign and those floor poufs = love!
Erin’s home is also gorgeous and I can’t seem to get the image of her crisp and clean white railing decked with luscious red and greens!
Erin38The plaid bows on the wreaths look amazing!

If you think you’ve seen enough, I assure you, the last 2 stops of the tour are must-sees. Can we talk about this porch shot from Amanda of Our Storied Home?
IMG_9880-683x1024Where shall I begin?! Let’s start with the those stripes! And then move on to the cutest swing chairs with a perfect plaid and polka-dot combo (metallic at that!). And then finally, those red and white straws peeking out of the copper mugs – what a gorgeous setting! I wish I could deck out my deck or porch Christmas, but it’s a tad chilly in Chicago right now.

Sarah from Simply Sarah Style shares her neutral and glamorous home filled with some FAB pillow prints and perfect pops of glitz.
Simply-Sarah-Style-Christmas-Home-Tour-19A fellow pillow collector and leopard lover?! I think so! And as I always say. “#blackwhiteandgoldeverything”

And last, but not least, Cindy from Rough Luxe has created the coziest spot with gorgeous greens and pair of matching plaid throws.
DSC_0205How could you not want to snuggle up in this spot by the fire for the night? or all the way until Christmas?

Alright…I just need a minute… to stop my brain from trying to plan out next year’s decor already! So good, everyone! So GOOD!

And in case you missed my tour, here is one of my favorite moments…

5 Fab Friday Finds [My Fall 2015 One Room Challenge Picks]

Talk about an upswing of beautiful room photos in blogland and across Pinterest last week – have you seen them?!!! I’m talking about the One Room Challenge reveal photos!

This is our Bliss Fall 2015 One Room Challenge Favorites

My jaw is still on the ground

No, really. They were that good.

Although I chose to sit this round out [see my Spring ORC reveal here], I have such an admiration for the dedication, creativity and downright skills these bloggers displayed during the fall challenge. 6 weeks and more blood, sweat and tears than I care to recollect! Linda from Calling it Home hosts this phenomenal challenge twice a year and I couldn’t let myself fully getting into holiday decorating mode without absorbing some of this design & décor greatness!

Without further ado, here are just a few of my favorite room reveals!

untitledA Well Dressed Life | Home Office

If this were my office, I might actually jump out of bed & sprint to work each morning, of course with a quick pit-stop by the coffee maker! I can’t get over all the details – the gold dipped AND gray stripe dresser, the perfectly styled bookshelves and on the other side, the prettiest, bold & blingy metallic curtains. All I can say is, simply stunning!

Blue i Style - LaundryClosetStraightOnBlue I Style | Laundry & Linen Closet

This is seriously the most gorgeous tiny space I’ve ever seen? It looks like a luxury boutique hotel, but nope. Its just the newly revamped laundry & linen closets in Blue I Style’s home. The black and white (<3) with pops of green make my heart go pitter patter.

girl-room-hanging-chair-poufHouse Updated | Little Girl’s Room

And this isn’t even half of it! Talk about a little girl’s DREAM room! From the pale pink walls, to that CHAIR and don’t get me started on the gallery wall curated to perfection on the other side of the room above the bed. You must. go see. the rest. NOW!

Slide12Holtwood Hipster | Home Office

I stopped dead in my tracks when I laid eyes on this office. The black, white and gold were singing to me in perfect unison through the computer screen. And that chair! It brought back happy thoughts of my cane chair makeover from earlier this year.  The gallery wall ledges and storage baskets are functional AND fabulous! When it comes down to it, isn’t that what the inside of your home should be?

DSC_1233Evolution of Style | Girl’s Bedroom

And because I couldn’t help but fall for another little girl’s room 🙂 #boymom Isn’t this so lovely? The pillow game is on point and that bedside table! Jenny is a painting extraordinaire so I didn’t expect anything less! The room is light fresh with subtle pops of bright and bold brilliance. I think I’m going a little coo-koo crazy for pink!

Like I said, these are only a small representation of my favorites – if you want to see more One Room Challenge goodies, go here. And I you missed any of the select 20 designer/bloggers rooms revealed last Wednesday, then you must go here, too!

Pattern Play | Pretty Plaid

Nothing. I mean, nothing says warm & cozy like PLAID. It enters the scene in the fall and transitions right on in to winter. Of course you can totally rock a plaid print all year round and with such a variety out there now, you have limitless options! One of the easiest ways to add a touch of fall into your home, other than scattering pumpkins everywhere, is to add a plaid throw blanket to the back of a chair or the arm of a sofa. Similarly, toss a couple of plaid fall throw pillows on the couch or in your entryway and call it a day!

Today, I am sharing some of my favorite plaid gear – for the home and for your closet!

DIY fall throw pillows with cloth napkins Fall entryway fall table linens Fall decorating This is our Bliss

DIY Fall Pillows [for under $5]

You guys, I made 2 pillows for $5. TOTAL! Have you ever even heard of such a thing?! Nowhere. I repeat – nowhere, can you get a decorative throw pillow for $2.50 or even $5, for that matter unless you are thrifting or at the Dollar Store (but last time I checked, the dollar store doesn’t sell pillows!). So do you want to know how I did it?

Napkins!

Ok, so I popped into HomeGoods one day a couple of weeks ago to do a return. Well, you know I can’t just go through the line with one measly return. I had to grab a cart and power through my favorite aisles. For some reason, I went down the table linens aisle and spotted these sparkly fall plaid napkins. My first thought was…

Ooo! These would be perfect for a fall tablescape!

But my second thought was…these could seriously be the cutest pillows!
DIY cloth napkin pillows adding fall touches fall inspiration fall decor This is our Bliss

I don’t deck my house out for fall, but I do get the urge to warm things up a bit. I had been wanting to add some autumn-ish pillows to the family room to spice up our new gray couch. (More soon on the couch and our new rug, too!) After peeking at the cloth napkins and noticing “18”x18″” on the tag (and the amazing price of $4.99 for a set of 4), I knew I had to grab them.
fall plaid cloth napkins - HomeGoodsWell, they did sit around for a little while in my pantry, but I finally opened them up to sew a couple together. If you’ve done any sewing before, you can do this. OR if you know someone who sews and you bribe them with a pumpkin spice latte or a bottle of wine, you just might get yourself a couple pillows sewn for you.

I don’t too often, but I’ve done a ton of pillows – for our outdoor patio & the floral print ones in the guestroom. And, you might remember back to last year when I made Simon’s nursery curtains out of bed sheets. Other than that, I don’t bust out the sewing machine much.

Back to the napkins…As far as pillows go over here, I like to switch my covers out and change them around fairly often, so I sewed a zipper in. It makes it easy to take off the pillow to throw in the wash, too!

Here is how mine turned out:
DIY throw pillows with cloth napkins - fall table linens Fall decorating This is our BlissThat’s really all the further I got with step-by-step photos – so sorry! After I sewed them, I put in a 20″x20″ insert I already at home. I like to use inserts that are the exact size of the fabric or napkins (before sewing) or just slightly larger so they are nice & full. I prefer feather or down inserts, but any pillow forms are good!

DIY fall throw pillows with cloth napkins - fall table linens Fall decorating fall entryway Plaid pillows This is our BlissPlenty of plaid pillows to go around! One may end up in every room perhaps.

I know I didn’t share the steps I took to create this, but there are a TON of pillow sewing tutorials out there – like this one here from Scout & Nimble. Check it out – super easy instructions if you’ve never made a pillow before – a zippered one, at that!

And if you are looking for a non-zipper option, Sarah from Thrifty Décor Chick has an awesome how-to for table linens! She finishes her pillow off with a hand-stitch. Either way is great – your preference!

Are you going to be stalking the table linens aisles now? I’m pretty sure I’m going to peek around at Target for some more today. Especially since I found the prettiest ones there last year that I used on my Thanksgiving table!

How to update an old Bookcase in 30 seconds | Back to Basics Week #3

I’m taking the word “basic” down to its core today. I mean, for real.

Aren’t we always looking for ways to give something a quick update without breaking the bank or taking up too much of our precious time? I feel that struggle ALL .OF. THE. TIME. Seriously, it’s just part of who I am, but I constantly have the urge to fuss with things around the house. Like Heather from Southern State of Mind puts it, “Can’t stop. Won’t stop zhushing my house.” Ain’t that the truth?!

Well, for my 3rd post in the series, I decided to go reaaaally basic.  No nightstand styling or pattern play fuss today!

back to basics - how to update an old bookcase with command hooks - 30 second makeover - formal living room bookcase - hanging art on a bookcase - shelf styling 3 - This is our blissInstead, I’m sharing a simple solution for how to update an old bookcase in 30 seconds for basically free. You could spend an entire day rearranging your bookcase knick knacks (like I recently did!), and another day painting the bookcase (if it needs it) and another few hours applying a patterned wallpaper or fabric backing OR you could take 30 seconds to make one small change and completely transform the look.

And the best part aside from it being a cinch – it only requires 2 things – a command hook & a piece of art. I mean we are talking about basics, right?

This itty bitty project will take your bookcase right from drab to fab and here’s how!

INSTRUCTIONS:

IMG_2648I had a package of these mini clear hooks laying around and they ended up being just the right size to fit along the middle section of the bookcase and would hold up an 11″x14″ frame.
*be sure to check the weight limit for the hooks you are using in comparison to the piece you are going to hang

I’ll have to fill you in another time, but if you haven’t had a chance to check it out yet, you definitely should! That stack was created from my personal IG account, but at the Haven conference this summer, they had a chatbook created for each attendee. Such a special touch!
how to update an old bookcase with command hooks - 30 second makeover - formal living room bookcase - hanging art on a bookcase - shelf styling - This is our blissIt’s not too big and not too bulky, but it adds some depth and dimension. It does slightly cover some of my bookshelf accessories, but I did that intentionally…allowing a few things to sort of “peek out” from behind it.

I was really happy with the bookcase before, especially after recently rearranging everything, but now there is a “pop”. That little something unexpected… which is what I love most about styling and décor. I certainly haven’t mastered this area of expertise, but I sure do admire those who have. For now, I’m having fun playing around as I hone my skills!
how to update an old bookcase with command hooks - 30 second makeover - formal living room bookcase - hanging art on a bookcase - formal living room coffee table - This is our blissI’ll probably be shifting my shelves again any day now (just kidding! I mean, I just did it 2 weeks ago!) but I can change out the art as often as I want or even remove it completely if I get bored with it. I love command hooks for this reason. They are easy to use and 100% temporary!

I use them quite often for party decorations – like for holding up the ends of my DIY buntings I’ve made for my boys’ birthday parties (see a few here, here and here) and were used another time for a Thanksgiving bunting.

The books come in all sorts of colors and sizes, but I personally like the smaller clear hooks best. The are almost invisible if you aren’t placing something in front of them, like I did on the bookcase. They really do work like a charm!

5 Fab Friday Finds [Round Mirrors]

Its here! Friday! Woo hoo!
These last few weeks have been a bit crazy with my trip to Haven and our mini-vacay in Savannah, then home for Henry’s 3rd birthday and then I left a week later to help my mom decorate their new house in Arizona and just got back this last Tuesday!! I am so looking forward to the weekend at home and hopefully a little normalcy next week. Posts are in progress right now for everything I have been up to! I have so much to share and don’t want you to miss a thing, so please check back soon for new goodies 🙂

As you may know, we’ve been working on our finishing our basement since April! We hired a general contractor to do the construction and his subs did most everything else. I love to DIY, but not in that sort of complex-complicated-putting-up-walls-type-of-way. My kind of DIY consists of an upholstery project (hopefully more to come!), an occasional crafty décor piece (I did a ton of them in Simon’s Nursery) and then lots of lots decorating & accessorizing! 🙂 Maybe someday I will become more advanced. Maybe.
After a couple breaks on their end and a couple trips on our end, the space is really shaping up! I shared a few sneak peaks on instagram recently of our new lights and the stacked stone feature wall in the bar area. I’m trying to crank away at designing the layout for the wall décor, buying things as I see them and then a couple of larger purchases to chip away at, too – bar stools, wine fridge / beverage cooler, media center, play space bookcase or shelving unit and the bathroom mirror. I have an idea of what I want each of these pieces to look like, but haven’t completely narrowed down my findings yet.

I’m sharing my top picks for round mirrors today and would so love & appreciate your opinion!!

Here they are:

Round mirror options - This is our Bliss

1 || 2 || 3 || 4 || 5

I’m leaning towards a gold or black mirror between 25″-30″. I probably will stay on the minimalistic side, but couldn’t help but fall in love with #1. Sunburst mirrors are literally everywhere right now and all with their own unique traits. This gold one is from Amazon – can you believe it? I have always been a huge Amazon fan, but still can not get over the variety of items they carry. I mean, isn’t Amazon everyone’s one-stop-shop, especially with the convenience of free 2-day shipping as an Amazon prime member??! ok.. back to mirrors.

I must admit, right now my number one pick is actually mirror #4.

West Elm round gold mirrorI’ve seen it in person in the store and love its simplicity and color, too, of course. It is 30″ round and would fit nicely above our new vanity and under the new vanity lights!

I really love how love how the vanity & lights look so far in the space. All it needs, is a mirror + a some wall art. Easy enough! Our shower door was installed this week along with glass shelves on the stone wall in the bar. I will have plenty more photos coming as the basement spaces finish up!

I’ll be working down there this weekend, so be sure to follow me on instagram for more sneak peaks!

Have the B E S T weekend!!

What do you think? Go with #4 or one of the others?

All About Haven 2015!

Where do I begin?!!

Seriously, this past weekend’s Haven conference in Atlanta was a truly invigorating & inspirational event – 3 nights & 2 FULL days of straight awesomeness! Long days and late nights, but I am already looking forward to next year… #haven2016 anyone?!

For those of you who aren’t familiar, Haven is an annual design & DIY bloggers conference. I mentioned here that Ted surprised me with a ticket to Haven for my birthday this past February and I couldn’t be more grateful to him for helping me take the plunge. If it weren’t for him, I probably wouldn’t have pulled the trigger on the trip. Not that I didn’t want to go, but I’m pretty sure, at the time, I didn’t think I was “ready” or a good enough blogger to attend. I surely couldn’t have been more wrong.

Thursday evening was the Welcome reception, but just before-hand, the lovely Haven chairs hosted a Newbie party for all of the first-timers. We went through a few icebreakers, exchanged business cards and got to know one another. All over cocktails, of course. I learned I definitely was not the newest blogger there. Many others had also been blogging for a year or slightly more and there were even several people who hadn’t even started their blog yet! A mixed bag, for sure. Here is a shot from the welcome party with a few awesome girls I got to know!

After the reception, I found myself at dinner with 4 amazing women – all super talented and just as fun & charming as they appear on their blogs. I sort of felt like “pinch me” all weekend! Meeting them all in real life!

Friday kicked off with a hilarious motivational speaker, Jon Acuff, then off to sessions and sponsor booths before the evening festivities.
Jon AcuffDeb from Seeking Lavender Lane was the cutest & sweetest! We made our way around chatting with sponsors and then got to jump in a fun shoot with 2 of the Haven co-chairs, Chris from Just a Girl Blog & Sarah from Thrifty Décor Chick at the Kirklands booth!

Saturday, sadly was the last day, but also the most eye-opening. There were a tremendous amount of takeaways from each session I attended with plenty of notes to still sort through 🙂 but 2 stood out to me and were more than just eye-opening. They really moved me. One was about moving from a Brand to a Business and how to get down to the basics. Identifying who you are and what you are about should really be the basis of your brand. Embracing your unique qualities will set you apart and also allow your true voice to shine through to your readers. Being authentic will keep readers around far longer than pretty pictures. Sitting down to reflect on how I want to represent myself and then owning it is one of the top items on my post-Haven to-do list. The list is long. really long.

At another session, Karianne from Thistlewood Farms, spoke about recognizing your value & worth. Building the confidence to approach a brand for sponsorship and learning to recognize we are valuable resources and can be instrumental in helping them grow their brand.

She was so fantastic!

One final meal with m’girls (Heather – Southern State of Mind, Amanda – Dixie Delights & Paige – The Pink Clutch) a late night dance party and then we were off to Savannah in the morning! [I’ll be recapping our extended vacay sometime next week, so stay tuned!]

Haven was more than just info, fresh ideas and tips & tricks. It was connecting with the most helpful, uplifting & innovative people across the our industry. I clearly didn’t include each & every detail of my experience, but hopefully I was able to summarize my highlights & takeaways with a few pics to go along. I’m going to take what I learned and try to apply it day-by-day without getting overwhelmed. try is the keyword. My hope is that I’m able to slowly start incorporating new ideas into my posts, photography, etc. and that you’ll start to see me and my brand transform into something great. something I can continue to be proud of as I work to make it the best representation of ME!

Mandy from Vintage Revivals sums it up best. Incredible closing speech.
seriously. Just be yourself.I mean it when I say I’m already counting down to next year’s conference. Seriously #alreadycravinanotherhaven
Haven selfieAnd one…the old school way.

*Although I don’t have a picture with them, I was lucky enough to meet Kimm from Reinvented & Jeanie from Create and Babble on Wednesday night as they sort of took me under their wing – inviting me to show up the next morning to help stuff swag bags and then asked to meet for drinks before the welcome party the first night. They told me they remembered how it felt to be new to Haven and while it is an incredible experience, it can be extremely intimidating at first! I owe these girls a huge thank you for making me feel so comfortable before it even began! So thank you!

So now that it is back to real life, things keep on a movin’. Tomorrow, we’ll be celebrating my first-born’s 3rd birthday tomorrow [I can’t believe its been a full year since I wrote that post?!] Our celebrations will pretty much be non-stop for 3 days! Although I’m definitely NOT yet recovered from the trip, here we go! #whatsnew
And I’m dying to get new posts published after I’ve been crafting up fresh ideas in my head, they will all just have to wait. Its party time!!

One Room Challenge [Guestroom Revamp Week #4]

I guess it is that time again! Thursday is here which means it is week 4 over at Calling it Home‘s One Room Challenge for the Linking Participants.

ORC-LP-250x183

If you are just visiting today for the first time and need to get-in-the-know about what has been going on, you can do it here [week 1, week 2, week 3]! Also, welcome! I mentioned before how it has been a little cray cray over here ever since I made the commitment to have this guestroom finished in 6 weeks, but in a good way! It has really been a fun challenge for me personally to learn how to manage my time, prioritize and bargain shop. There are quite a few things needed to fill a space, so I have been trying to watch the dreaded b-word (you know, budget) so it doesn’t get out of hand. It is easy to create a design board and forget there are limitations in the cashflow HA!

Last week, I shared photos of a few purchases as well as some things I drowned in gold spray paint. Well, add in seeeeveral more shopping hauls and a few stacks of cardboard boxes on the doorstep and I would say we are really getting somewhere now. Instead of sharing more piles of my finds, I thought I would give you a glimpse of my latest treasure…finally done!!!

I reupholstered the chair in an upholstery class that I took. The chair did take me quite awhile given that I only devoted a couple of hours per week and I was at the mercy of the instructor. When she was with other students, I had to patiently wait for my next set of directions. There was a lot of downtime, but it was really a great experience. I will definitely be sharing more on the chair and more of the in-between photos in the next couple of weeks. This room is all happened because of that little find 🙂

You can learn more about this little chair’s journey here and here.

And that is what I’ve got for today! I was visiting my parents for 5 days last week, so I didn’t have much time to photograph actual progress in the room. Don’t worry, I promise to have plenty to share next week and then week 6 will be LOADED with pictures in the reveal post. Like, a ton.

You can see the entire transformation below:
