DIY Pom Pom Wreath Photo Ornament

The time has come and I’m ready to shout it from the rooftops! The season of merry making, blissful baking and all-out Christmas EVERYTHING has arrived! I know the calendar still says Thanksgiving, but my heart has said Christmas for weeks now! Today, I’m sharing a darling DIY Pom Pom Wreath Photo Ornament as part of a DIY Ornament Hop with eleven other lovely and talented bloggers. Aside from my 5 Minute DIY Holiday Hostess Gift I shared a couple weeks ago, this is my first official DIY of the holiday season. Like I said, bring on the merry making!!

I love handmade ornaments, especially the ones the boys bring home from school. My DIY ornament is quite honestly, just as simple. We have a few photo ornaments on the tree, but why not add a few more! In fact, I’d love to add a photo of the boys to the tree each year taken at Christmas the year before.

There is something simply magical about seeing the spirit of Christmas through a child’s eyes. My ornament symbolizes just that…plus, pom poms are just the cutest!

SUPPLIES

Metallic pom poms
photo
cardstock paper or poster board
scissors
hot glue gun & hot glue
gold glitter tree pick
ribbon

DIRECTIONS

Start with a photo and draw a circle inside. Then take the cardstock or poster board and draw a slightly larger circle on it. I used a metal Gladsock planter from IKEA to trace around. I traced the bottom of the planter on the photo and then flipped it over and traced the top on the cardstock paper to create a larger circle.

Cut both circles out.

Center the photo on the cardstock and glue it down.

Next, take the hot glue gun and run an inch or so of hot glue on the white border around the photo. Place a few pom poms down filling the width of the border completely.

Work your way around the entire circle until it’s completely full. You will have what looks like a “wreath”!

Then, add a dab of hot glue near the bottom left of the wreath and place three red pom poms on it. Snip two small pieces off of the gold glitter tree pick and attach it under the 3 red poms with a bit more hot glue.

Finally, cut a piece of ribbon, tie a bow and leave the ends long. Attach the bow to the top of the wreath and then line up the ends and connect them with a small amount of glue,

Your ornament is ready to be hung on the tree!

This photo was taken of the littles two Christmases ago and it was right after they saw the Christmas tree lit up at night for the first time that year. Their expressions were priceless, but I almost love their backside better! The biggest was leaning over with delight and the littlest was looking at the biggest with his big blue eyes as if to figure out how he should react to the sight!

But it was the sight of them that I wanted to capture and have the memory of it be with us each and every time we look at the tree. To be reminded of the simple joys around us each and every day, but especially this time of the year.

It’s easy to get caught up in the holiday hustle, especially as a blogger. This year, I am really trying to keep things simple. Aside from multiple trips to Dollar Tree each week, I’m keeping my Christmas loot to a minimum!!
