Hi! It’s been awhile, friends! I told you July and August would be a bit slow here on the blog while we all adjusted to life as a family of 5, but I didn’t know I would go the last 2 weeks without checking in. I’ve missed you and what better time to pop back in than with a simple dollar store project?! Today, I’ve got a fun DIY Fall decor piece for you, so read on to check out my DIY Dollar Store Copper Acorn Vase!

I hadn’t been to Dollar Tree in what felt like months, but I did run in there quickly to see what Fall and Halloween items they had out. Would you believe I spotted Christmas decorations already?! Nuts! While in there, I spotted some cute little acorns and knew I wanted to do something with them.

They came in packs of 12 so I grabbed 2 and strolled through a few more aisles. One of my go-to aisles is the wreath and vase spot to check and see if they have anything new and different.

While I didn’t find an interesting shaped vase of any kind, I did grab a simple cylinder one to take home.

And nope. I didn’t put the acorns INSIDE the vase [as a filler, which would be cute, too], but outside rather!

Here is what I used…

DIY DOLLAR STORE COPPER ACORN VASE SUPPLIES

glass cylinder vase [Dollar Tree]
foam acorns [Dollar Tree]
hot glue gun + hot glue
copper spraypaint
fresh or faux flowers [mine are from Trader Joes]

DIY DOLLAR STORE COPPER ACORN VASE DIRECTIONS

There really isn’t much to this, but here is what I did.

1 – I heated up the hot glue gun and emptied out the acorn packages.

2 – I added a small amount to one side of the acorn and placed it on the vase holding it for a few seconds.

3 – I continued to glue the acorns on the vase spacing them out approximately 2 inches from each other and turning them facing in opposite directions as I made my way up and down and around the vase. I ended up using about 18 of the 24 acorns.

4 – Then I took the vase outside and placed it on scrap cardboard and began to spray it with the copper spraypaint, making sure to get all sides and edges of the acorns as well as all parts of the vase.

After I let it dry for about an hour, I came back out to give it another coat.

5 – After the vase was completely dry, I put my flowers inside and filled it with water. Then I set it out on my coffee table in the living room. It would also look great as a simple centerpiece on the table or kitchen island.

It’s metallic and quirky and I love this look for a more understated, unique approach to Fall decorating. With a newborn in the house and not as much time for, well, anything, I don’ know that they’ll be a whole lot more Fall decor this year.

A quick zhush to the mantel might happen, but otherwise, I’m pretty content with my DIY Dollar Store Copper Acorn Vase for now!

I know I said there wouldn’t be much inspiring Fall content coming your way this season, but I didn’t say I wouldn’t be working on any projects! I’ve got 2 [well, more like 4 rooms] that I’m going to be fixing up and sharing my progress along the way.

One room starts next week, so be sure to stay tuned! You can see all of my room reveals in this gallery here!

And since I haven’t been working on the house much this summer, I sure have been adding to my Fall wardrobe! Hoping to squeeze in a few Fall style posts in the next couple of weeks also.

Have a great day, friends!!
