I can’t deny my love for a good margarita, but since we aren’t venturing out as often lately [or since having kids ha!] we’ve been perfecting our at-home cocktails. You can obviously grab a pre-made margarita mix with or without the alcohol, but they usually taste very sweet and heavy. With a bottle of tequila and a couple simple ingredients. our at home marg never tasted better! And in honor of Cinco de Mayo, I thought there is no better time than today to share a Simple Skinny Skinny Margarita Recipe!
We’ve been making a few different varieties of margs lately, but this particular margarita recipe is one I fell in love with after a day of drinking them at a friends house. They were so good I had to take notes while they were being prepped!
I’ve shared other cocktail recipes and my favorite Pinot Noirs on the blog before, but when I realized I had never shared any version of our at-home margaritas, I knew I had to post ASAP!
SIMPLE SKINNY SPICY MARGARITA
It is light, fresh and smooth with just the right amount of heat. And with very few calories, it’s a guilt-free indulgence.
You can omit the spicy part if you prefer a regular margarita!
SIMPLE SKINNY SPICY MARGARITA INGREDIENTS
- 1-2 ounces of Tequila Blanco or Silver [I prefer Casamigos, but Jose Cuervo Silver w/ Blue Agave or something similar will work]
- 8-12 ounces Sprite Zero
- 2-3 limes [for juice and wedges for garnish]
- Chili Lime seasoning [I love Trader Joe’s & Tajin]
- ice
- 2-3 slices of fresh jalapeno [optional]
SIMPLE SKINNY SPICY MARGARITA DIRECTIONS
I’m not a bartender or Mixologist, so this is just how I personally like my margarita!
First, fill your cocktail glass with ice all the way full. Lots of ice is key!
Next, add your tequila.
After that, pour in the Sprite Zero.
Then, cut and squeeze the juice from 2 limes and add to the glass. Slice a wedge to add to the side or squeeze and toss in the glass.
Lastly, sprinkle Chili Lime seasoning directly on the rocks for the simple way or rim your glass with a mix of sea salt and Chili con Lime seasoning at the beginning.
I actually prefer to have the spices floating in my drink and oftentimes will add more to the top mid-way through! The Tajin blend is thicker with larger flakes and the Trader Joe’s Chili Lime seasoning blend is more subtle.
It’s on my list of Favorite Things to Buy at Trader Joe’s and always have 1 or 2 in the spice cabinet!
And depending on my mood, sometimes I cut up a fresh jalapeno and add a few slices and give it a stir. T and I both love spicy foods so it’s no surprise we like our cocktails with a little bit of heat!
I recommend tasting as you go and then tweaking the amounts based on what you like and how you want it to taste!
And for extra, extra skinny and more natural, you can do Soda water with extra lime juice and omit the Sprite zero altogether.
These are easy to make for a crowd [or just for 2] since we always have everything on-hand. And if we don’t, you know our cocktail machine is always ready to go!
And since today is Cinco de Mayo AND Taco Tuesday, I might just have to make an exception and have one tonight!
We’re either making tacos or ordering takeout from one of our favorite local Mexican restaurants.
