Our Favorite “Throwback” Family Movies + What’s On Our List

Throwback Thursday - family movie nights on the couch

Early on in our Stay at Home journey, we declared Thursday nights “Throwback Thursday” Family Movie Night as part of our daily themes! The goal was to share some of the classics from our childhood with the boys. While we still have a ways to go, we did check quite a few off the list! Today, I’m sharing Our Favorite Throwback Family Movies + What’s on Our List!

You can check out our daily themes in this post here. It was all in the spirit of having fun with our time at home together & giving the kids something to look forward to 😉

boys on the couch - Throwback Thursday Family Movie night

You know we’ve binged our fair share of shows over these last few months, but to be honest, I’m not sure who has looked forward to our Throwback Thursdays more, us or the boys!

Since T and I are both 80’s babies, these are some of the movies we grew up watching. There are soooo many more, but here is what we’ve managed to introduce to the boys so far!

OUR FAVORITE “THROWBACK” FAMILY MOVIES

Jumanji
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids
E.T.
The Sandlot
Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory
Space Jam
Homeward Bound
Rookie of the Year
Little Rascals
The Sound of Music
Mary Poppins
Little Giants
Lion King
Aladdin

THROWBACK MOVIES ON OUR LIST

Gremlins
Goonies
Beethoven
Casper
Hook
The Princess Bride
Stand By Me
All Dogs Go to Heaven
BIG
Beetlejuice
Back to the Future

We actually have quite a long list, but the boys are still on the young side [almost 8, 6 and 2], so it might be a few years before we get to some of those and others!

A reader suggested “The Wonder Years” and while it’s not a movie, I did hear they are bringing back a reboot. One of my favorites that I will definitely want to share with the boys someday 😉

So many of these movies remind me of staying up late on the couch with my parents and sister, sleepovers with friends and Friday night pizza, popcorn & movie nights.

The good ol’ days 😉

I’ve asked for recommendations on Instagram & Facebook, but if you haven’t shared your favorite movies from the 80’s & 90’s yet, please do in the comments below! I’ll add to the list and share this post again!

popcorn with mini m&m's for family movie night - family movie night snacks

Since it’s supposed to rain tonight, we probably won’t be able to make our pool reservation. So Throwback Thursday it is! The boys always request popcorn m&m’s so I better check our inventory!

Thanks for sharing these ideas! Fellow ’85er here, and my boys are 5 and 3. It’s been fun re-living my childhood Disney movies with them (and singing along while the husband simply laughs at me!), and I appreciate your ideas for future movie nights. So fun!

Thanks so much for your note, Brie! Yay for ’85 😉 I’m so glad you were able to grab some ideas for your boys! And there is absolutely nothing wrong with relishing in our childhood via disney movies ha! Have a great weekend!
