4th of July Snapshots // Our First Weekend in Arizona

We made it! My mom, the boys and I flew from Chicago to Phoenix on July 1st and arrived just before 5 pm MST. [we’re all still adjusting to the time change!] Ted and his brother made the 27 hour drive with a short 6 hour sleep break and got in Friday night in time to kick off the long weekend! I thought I’d share some 4th of July Snapshots with you all since it was our very first in AZ!

I did a photo dump of our 4th on Instagram, so I thought I should document our weekend here as well! As you can imagine it was a hot one, but we had a blast jumping into the heat of a holiday weekend here!

I plan to share another post with some of the goodbye dinners, parties and toasts with friends and family over the last couple of weeks but for now, here are some shots of us enjoying 4th of July weekend as a family after the big move!

You can read our moving announcement here.

4TH OF JULY SNAPSHOTS // OUR FIRST WEEKEND IN ARIZONA

We flew out at 3 pm on July 1st, so that final morning at the house – packing up, emptying the house, the final loading of the last pod, saying goodbye to neighbors and driving off – felt like 3 days.

We got through security and settled in at the gate before take-off. The boys did great!

Our flight over on Thursday was a little shorter than normal at just under 3 hours and 15 minutes, but it was a bumpy one.

Once we landed in Phoenix, the flight attendants reminded us to keep our windows closed and the overhead air on so the plane didn’t heat up too quickly on the runway. Definitely not a problem we have in Chicago!

My aunt and grandpa picked us up from the airport and took us to my parents’ house. She made and brought dinner with her, too.

Friday morning was an early one for us all. I was up before 4 and the boys’ wake-up times staggered between 5 & 6:30. It took us several days to adjust our internal clocks.

We drove by our new house [I’ll be sharing more soon!], the park and the big boy’s school on Friday morning and then hit the pool that afternoon. We pretty much had my parent’s neighborhood pools to ourselves all weekend because there are not too many visitors here in the Summer!

Ted got in around 7 on Friday night and we had a short, but sweet drink on the patio. The A/C was our friend when we weren’t swimming ha!

This blue tie dye romper was my pool cover-up – so light & airy with pockets! comes in several other colors and runs TTS. I’m wearing a size small.

The majority of the 4th of July was spent at the pool. These boys are little fish! We were in the pool almost the whole time, too. It’s just too hot to sit in a chair!

We also took another quick trip by the new house & park because Ted wasn’t with us when we first went on Friday. They’re going to be spending so much of their time playing here 😉

Then back to my parents’ to grill and hang out.

We did end up taking the big boys for ice cream and fireworks after Winston fell asleep.

It was pretty low-key, but we’re all still wiped from traveling and the sun wears you out too!

We rounded out the holiday weekend with fresh haircuts & more pool time on Monday.

They look so grown up!

We can get into our house this week, but won’t be officially moving in with all of our things for at least another week. I’ll be sharing an empty house tour soon, so be on the lookout! So much has happened over the last month, so I’ll do my best to go back and share some highlights with you guys from our final days in Illinois.

For now, we’ll be slowly getting settled here and gearing up for school. We start on July 21st!!

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend celebrating America’s birthday with family & friends. I am always & forever grateful for our freedom in this country. Spending time with loved ones enjoying this beautiful country we live in!

Have a great [short] week!!

I’ll be back soon!

Love that you share pics with your family. Did you say why you were moving and I missed it? Let me think, the last time I was awake at 4am was…….never. Yikes, that is early for school to start. Keep us posted. I’m sure I’m not the only one that loves hearing about your family.

Thanks so much, Bev! We were ready for a change — closer to family, better weather & outdoor activities and more! As early as it is, we are ALL ready for school to start next week. It has actually felt like a long and full Summer, so we are excited to meet classmates and parents. Plus getting back into a routine will be great to help us get settled 🙂

I forgot about the time change so yes, that’s a bit of an adjustment. The heat? I’m sure it’s something else! I’m not a fan although it’s a great getaway in the fall and winter. Can’t wait to see the new house and I’m sure you’re anxious to get settled. School starts very early…what happened to the old days of returning to school after Labor Day? 😂
