Dining Room Update Plans // New Year New Room Refresh Challenge

Dining Room Update - New Year New Room Refresh Challenge - This is our Bliss

Hey out there and happy 2022! I’m kicking off the start of a new year on the blog with my 2nd room project in our new home! If you’ve been around for awhile then you know each January since 2016 [with the exception of last year] I join a fun group of gals for a one month New Year, New Room Refresh Challenge. This year I’m transforming the Dining Room in our new house from an empty space to one that’s layered, luxe and full of life! Today I’m sharing the Dining Room Update Before Photos & Plan!

There is nothing better than putting your head down at the start of the year to work towards achieving a goal. And continuing to put my touch on this house and make it our home is and always will be a goal of mine for as long as we live here.

My hope is that our home looks and fees like us.

And a one month challenge is just the thing to get things moving around here!

This fabulous challenge is hosted by our fabulous & fearless leader Stephanie of Casa Watkins Living. I am honored to have been invited to participate all these years later. This is officially my 6th year participating. Last year, I sat the challenge out since we left mid-January for a month visit to Arizona while the boys were still elearning. It was one of the first steps in our plan to move, which we ended up doing last July!

You can see my Farewell Home Tour here and our Empty House Tour here.

Now let’s take a quick peek at the blank slate I’m working with this time around…

OUR DINING ROOM UPDATE // NEW YEAR NEW ROOM REFRESH CHALLENGE

I’ll be sharing an update each Tuesday throughout the month of January and the Reveal at the end of the month. Given that the space is completely empty except for the Dining Room table our sellers left us, I’ve gotta get to work!

DINING ROOM BEFORE

The only change we’ve made in here since we moved in is paint. I had about 80% of our main floor painted SW Gossamer Veil last Fall right before I completed the Family Room + Kitchen Makeover for the One Room Challenge.

Similar to the Family Room / Kitchen space, the Dining Room shares its walls with the Living Room. Both are directly to your left when you walk in the front door. To the right is the basement stairwell and small hallway opening to the Powder Room and leading to the Laundry Room / Garage.

If you keep walking straight past the Living / Dining Room, you’ll enter the Family Room / Kitchen space.

As I mentioned, they left us the table and although it’s old, it is nice and big. It sat 10 of us on Thanksgiving. We just hauled in the folding chairs and still had a really nice meal all gathered together around one table.

This large light is obviously the focal point because its the biggest thing in here besides the table!

I’m planning to replace the light fixture with another statement piece, but something a little more modern and a little less rustic. You can see the rest of the plans I have in mind after you view my vision below.

curtain panels // end chairs // side chairs // rug // table // sideboard buffet // lamps //  barware set // books // chandelier // faux olive tree // gold planter pot

I’ve always been drawn to bold pattern, neutrals and lots of texture. This room design is no exception. I love the mix of bold glam with natural wood tones. It feels earthy, yet luxe. I am SO excited to get this space off the ground!

Plus, any chance for a sparkly, blingy light fixture is a win in my book. Overly feminine spaces are hard to come by when you live in a house with 4 boys 😉

DINING ROOM CHECKLIST

There isn’t much labor involved in this challenge, just nailing down the design, making selections, placing orders and waiting for delivery to install. Easy peasy! Fingers crossed we don’t encounter too many shipping & freight delays. It does happen with almost every room project, but when you’re working inside of a one month timeline, the stress factor increases ever so slightly.

Let’s see what we’re workin’ with…

  • swap out light fixture
  • hang curtain rods & panels
  • add dining chairs
  • add a buffet to the main wall & style / accessorize
  • determine wall art / mirror for the wall
  • add a rug
  • miscellaneous purchases / DIY projects:
    • ______________
    • ______________
    • ______________

I do have a couple items ordered and on their way to me, but I really need to finalize the rest of the decisions this week. I’ll have another update for you next Tuesday so hopefully I’ve made some progress.

Don’t forget to stop by the other blogger’s posts today as they introduce their spaces for the challenge. Week 1 is always such a fun week to see everyone’s vision and the start of some pretty cool things!
