6 Layered Rug Ideas for Your Front Door

Layered Door Mat Ideas for Your Front Porch featured - This is our Bliss

The layered rug look has been trending for some time now, but given how easy and affordable it is to pull off, I don’t see this look going anywhere any time soon! April is typically the time I start sprucing up my front porch and deck to get ready for the upcoming warmer weather. Changing out your front door mats [and adding a rug layer underneath] is one of the first things I do to prep! Here are 6 Layered Rug Ideas for Your Front Door in case you’re ready to do the same!

Last year, I decided to go all out and get our Front Porch over the finish line. We did a little more than just put a rug down, wreath up and plop some flowers in planters.

One of my favorite additions to our updated porch was the layered rug look – this striped rug & welcome mat

I love this layered rug combination so much!

What’s not to love with a classic stripe and a cute mat?!

The stripe mat is almost a plastic rug and while it was great for Spring, summer and fall, it wasn’t the best in the winter conditions. It had a tendency to get slick. So, while on the hunt for a new bottom layer rug, I thought I’d share with you some of the ones I’m considering purchasing.

They are neutral [of course ;)] and will work all year-round!

Some options are even as low as $12! The patterned rug sizes are perfect for layering a smaller door mat on top. Pick your bottom layer and then a cute mat and you are set!

Here are 6 layered rug combinations I love right now!

1 || STRIPED + HEY THERE, TAKE CARE || This is VERY similar to the rug set-up I currently have. Just a slightly different stripe. This striped rug comes in two different sizes, so just be sure you select the size that works best with your top layer.

2 || AZTECHELLO GOODBYE || I think the ones that have a different message for when you come in and when you step out is adorable!

3 || ANIMAL PRINTHOPE YOU BROUGHT WINE || I have both of these in my cart right now! The animal print one would work with the “Hey There, Take Care” that I currently have and the wine one is just calling my name 😉

4 || DIAMOND PIXEL HELLO || Sweet & simple!

5 || REVERSIBLE RIOYAY! YOU’RE HERE! || This Reversible Rio rug is such a steal right now at only $12!! I am really loving this combination, too. It might be my second favorite after the No. 3 option above.

6 || BUFFALO CHECK + HOME SWEET HOME || Absolutely timeless! The Buffalo plaid pattern and the saying “home sweet home” are both classics and. You can’t go wrong with this combination either!

2 others I found and love are this black hello mat and how perfect is this rug for during quarantine?! ha

Which layered rug idea is your favorite?

My personal favorites are 1, 3 and 5!

*TIP: Be sure to measure your front door area to determine what size bottom layer you need for your space AND which top layer will fit accordingly. You want there to be at least 3 inches around the perimeter in order to be able to see the pattern peeking out.
You also don’t want too large of a bottom layer and the doormat to be too tiny on top.
Use your best judgment for what will work with your style and space!

All of the rug options above can be mixed and matched. If you start with a neutral pattern underneath, you can even add a pop of color to the top layer door mat.

I just personally prefer to keep them both neutral so they work with any and all colors in my flowers, planters, bench pillows, etc., and each and every season!
