How to Create a Cozy Reading Nook in Your Bedroom

Hello out there! I’m back with a bedroom update this week and I have to say I’m starting to get giddy about how our space is coming together! After the wallpaper last week, it already feels like an entirely different room. Like we’re staying in another house! I’ve got some new furniture pieces to share today and I’m going to give you some tips on How to Create a Cozy Reading Nook in Your Bedroom.

Especially if you are sick of staring at an empty corner, but aren’t sure what to do or where to start!

I was given the opportunity to partner with Wovenbyrd and selected a couple of key pieces of furniture to help bring my cozy corner vision to life.

It is Week 5 of the Fall 2022 One Room Challenge and if you’re just tuning in, I am putting the finishing touches on our Primary Bedroom in the new house. We are almost to the 16-month mark of life in Arizona and have been working my way around our home trying to add my personal touch to each space.

HOW TO CREATE A COZY READING NOOK IN YOUR BEDROOM

STEP 1 // CLEAR YOUR CORNER

Remove unwanted or unused items in order to start with a clean slate. This is the time to declutter and give all of the miscellaneous items that live in the corner a new home. Maybe they can even go straight to the donation pile. I know our bedroom corner oftentimes became a dumping ground or landing zone for random things.

Time to move it out in order to create your reading nook!

I relocated my jewelry armoire to the bathroom to free up this wall.

STEP 2 // ADD A CHAIR

It can be a small occasional chair, a glider rocker, a swivel chair or a recliner! Find something you love and will fit in your space. I chose this gorgeous Classic Barrel Swivel Chair in a Cream Faux Shearling material.

It is so beautiful in person! It has great texture and I love the swivel feature.

This chair is also a smaller scale piece so as to not take up too much room, but still provides a spot to sit!

STEP 3 // BRING IN A FOOTSTOOL OR OTTOMAN

Your reading nook doesn’t require a large ottoman, just something to simply rest your feet on. I selected this 17″ Modern Square Ottoman with Metal Base. I love the brown contrast with the cream chair. It brings some warmth into the space and another texture.

STEP 4 // POP IN SMALL SIDE TABLE

All you need is a small surface to set a cup of coffee, a glass of wine, and your book!

STEP 5 // ADD A FLOOR LAMP OR READING LIGHT

An arched lamp in the corner or a floor lamp off to the side is the perfect way to give yourself a reading light in your bedroom nook. This way you don’t have to rely on the can lights or ceiling light fixture to provide enough light, especially if you plan to read at night when it’s dark out.

STEP 6 // LASTLY, PERSONALIZE IT WITH ART OR FRAMED PHOTOS

Add some personality, color, or pattern to your nook by hanging something on the wall. You guys have seen this art piece float around all over the house. I first brought it into our last home in the Family Room. It has temporarily lived on several walls, but I keep moving it around because I still love it!

Now your space is finally ready for you to sit down and relax in it. This cozy corner can easily come together. You may even have all of these pieces in your home already. Just go searching and see what you can come up with!
