Hi friends and welcome to Week 2 of the New Year, New Room Refresh Challenge! In case you missed it, I am giving our stairwell a quick facelift over the course of the month of January and today I’m here with some design plans. Here is the Stairwell Spruce Up Mood Board!

Last week, I introduced the space and shared the before photos and now I’m going to share a very simple mood board with some of the elements I’m looking to incorporate.

It is just a stairwell, so while there isn’t a ton to do, you better believe I’m excited to give it some life and infuse some personality into it!

Stairwell Spruce Up // NEW YEAR, NEW ROOM REFRESH CHALLENGE WEEK 2 Mood Board

This is probably the most stripped-down and simple mood board I’ve ever created, but there isn’t a ton to include this time around since it’s not exactly a full room.

As in most spaces I design, you’ll find some contrast, interesting abstract art, bold black, and a hint of glam. I love a good warm brass accent piece and the moody vibe just doesn’t get old for me.

Here is where I’m headed with our Stairwell…

We started on some of the work over the weekend, so let’s take a look at our project punch list and see how we’re coming along so far.

STAIRWELL PROJECT TO-DO LIST

• swap out light fixture – still sourcing
• replace or paint railing – railing painted!
• paint or wallpaper niches – decided on paint / scheduled painter for this week
• add art or other wall décor to both niches – still sourcing
• replace carpet – hopefully being installed before the challenge is over [part of our basement reconstruction project post-flood]
• add light source to other niche??
• window treatments??
• MISCELLANEOUS DIY PROJECTS:
