NYNR Week #3 Update // Stairwell Spruce Up

Hi guys! Its time for a quick weekly update for my Stairwell Spruce Up Project for the New Year, New Room Refresh Challenge. Gosh, the halfway mark sure came and went pretty quickly! Come and check out my NYNR Week #3 Update!

So far, I’ve introduced the space and shared the before photos, and then last week, I shared a very simple mood board with some of the elements I’m looking to incorporate.

Casa Watkins Living and the crew of participants are also sharing their week 3 updates, so be sure to click around at the end of this post and see how everyone is doing up to this point!

NYNR Week #3 Update // Stairwell Spruce Up

I truly don’t have much to show, but progress is progress right?!

Two main elements got a paint makeover and needless to say, I adore the outcome.

Black paint is always a winner in my book. I just can’t get enough.

My dad helped out and painted my staircase railing last week. We used SW Tricorn Black in a semi-gloss finish. We did a little prep work by wiping down the railing to clean it and then we applied liquid sandpaper to the surface.

The railing needed 2 coats of paint to get full coverage and wow, it really pops now!

A couple of days later my painter came over and took care of the large stairwell niche. My dad offered to do it, but I really didn’t care to have him on a 10-foot ladder off and on for several hours. It was something I felt great about outsourcing. He was in and out in no time and the look is so good!

I have plans for art in the large, black niche [the project might look familiar!] and I left the arched niche as-is/without black paint. I have a DIY project planned for inside, so not much paint would even show!

Stay tuned! I hope to have one or both niches ready to share next week!!

With only 2 weeks to go, I know I need to kick it into high gear so let’s take a look at our project punch list and see what’s left to tackle.
