How to Make a Big Impact in a Small Bathroom with Statement Tile

Goodbye, peach tile. Hello, gorgeous mosaic tile! I couldn’t be more giddy about the progress in the boys’ bathroom this week. The transformation of this tiny space has been remarkable and we’ve only replaced the tile so far! I knew the new flooring was going to be a huge improvement, but wow, is it beautiful. Today, I’m sharing How to Make a Big Impact in a Small Bathroom with Statement Tile.

The photos do not do this gorgeous star mosaic tile justice!

If you’re just stopping in today for the first time, welcome! Today is the week 3 update of the New Year, New Room Refresh Challenge hosted by Casa Watkins Living. This is my FIFTH year participating in this January challenge and this year, I’m taking on our Shared Boys’ Bathroom.

It’s the first bathroom we’ve done real work to in this house!

You can see our before photos, design and plans in my week 1 post and some of the bathroom inspiration I pulled from in Week 2’s post.

HOW TO MAKE A BIG IMPACT IN A SMALL BATHROOM WITH STATEMENT TILE

Since we were working in such a small space, I knew I wanted to go with a statement flooring. Something bold, but classic. When I first saw this Star Mosaic Tile by Jeffrey Court Tile, I immediately knew it was the one.

The natural stone tile laid out in an intricate star pattern is a vast improvement from the peachy, pinky, beigeish tile with, err um, brown grout. The gray and white color palette is crisp and cool and just the look I was going for.

In full disclosure, we hired out the tile work so I’m unable to share a step-by-step tutorial, but I’ll let the pictures tell the story.

Gosh, I still cringe when I see these before photos of this bathroom.

I’ll refrain from sharing any angles closer to the toilet! #momofboys

We went with a darker grout, but not black like I originally wanted.

We ended up going with Slate Gray, the bottom grout sample shown above.

It appears much darker when it’s first applied and then it lightens back up to it’s original color once it has dried.

And now for the semi-finished space with the *AFTER* photos of the tile.

I can’t wait to get my hands on that vanity next. A makeover is in the works and I’ll be getting to work on it this week.

I think I have my mind made up [well at least today I do], but in case I start to waver again, let me ask you.

What color should I paint the vanity? Black or white?

You’ll have to wait and see what I end up going with! Our new countertop install is today so several more items will be checked off the list including the sinks and faucets! The boys’ bathroom will really be coming together then.

Here is a look at what we’ve finished so far and what’s left to accomplish. Due to several shipment delays of key products from our brand partners, we’ve decided to push back the reveal date. So mark your calendars for Tuesday, February 4th! We’ll be ready!
