Big Boy Room Update | NYNR Refresh Challenge Week 4

Playful and Pattern-Happy Big Boy Room Mood Board - This is our Bliss

We are down to the wire, you guys! One week until the Big Boy Room reveal and we still have about 60-70% of the room left to complete! Eeek! Not that I’m surprised because that’s usually how these challenges end up going. Today, for the Week 4 update on the New Year, New Room Challenge hosted by Casa Watkins Living. I thought I’d share a few of the exciting pieces of the puzzle falling into place over the next few days. Just in time to share it all with you next week when the Playful and Pattern-happy Big Boy Room is complete!

I first introduced the space we are transforming for our middle guy at the beginning of the month during week 1 of the NYNR challenge. He hasn’t really had fully finished digs since his nursery in our old house. His room in this house has always been a transition space and is now officially the nursery for little guy #3. Instead of bunking the two bigs, we’re finally giving them their own separate spaces.

Week 2 I shared 7 boy rooms which sparked inspiration for me. Bold, slightly modern and fun and that’s exactly the vibe I’m going for in this room.

Week 3, wall art was the focus since I’m still trying to narrow down which pieces I want to put in the beautiful custom frames from Art to Frames. Their site was so easy to use and made the process of ordering frames a breeze! Since I didn’t know exactly what images/prints I wanted to use in the frames, I didn’t upload any to their site, except for the image I had made into a custom canvas piece. The other frames, including this gorgeous floating acrylic frame, I simply ordered and will add the art / photo to it myself. I absolutely cannot WAIT to hang the frames up on the wall.

The only reason they haven’t been hung up yet, is because the Milton & King wallpaper needed to go up first. While it’s up now, we actually didn’t end up hanging it ourselves like we originally planned. Luckily, my trusty contractor who did our master bedroom accent wall was available at a moment’s notice!!

Here is a sneak peek…

I’m in love!

One other victory in the space this week was an update to the headboard. I originally covered the headboard for the One Room Challenge a few years ago.

Do you recognize the material? Ironically enough, it’s another curtain panel, but it’s not just any curtain panel. It’s actually one I hung in our old master bedroom when I refreshed it during my very first New Year, New Year challenge in 2016 in our old house. So crazy, right?! You just never know when you’re going to have a new use for something you hold onto for awhile.

The other big and hopefully final major install taking place this week before the reveal is lighting. These gorgeous sconces are going in along with a new ceiling fan! Take a look at them…Black and gold beauties 🙂

Another black and gold touch I’m going to be adding this week are these knobs I’m swapping out on the dresser!

I love the subtle texture and that these knobs don’t scream little boy. They are definitely an accessory in the space that can grow with him or even be transitioned into another room someday.

Now, here is a look at where we’re at overall.
