A Simply Elevated Cheese Board with Grocery Store Sliced Cheese

featured elevated cheese board using sliced cheese - This is our Bliss

I love to entertain, but I don’t always love the fuss that goes into it. Life is busy enough as it is! I do however, love to add a touch of flare to take ordinary things up a notch. One of the easiest things you can put together is a cheese platter for guests to nibble on as they arrive. But you don’t actually need fancy cheese! See How to Elevate Your Cheese Board Using Basic Grocery Store Items in today’s post!

Ever have friends on their way over and you realize you don’t have anything worthy of setting out to greet them with?! My go-to is always a bowl of chips and salsa because it’s something I guarantee we have on hand!!

But I came up with a little hack to making a pretty cheese platter using ordinary sliced cheese!

How I Make a Simply Elevated Cheese Board with Grocery Store Sliced Cheese

We love to buy the variety packs of sliced cheese at Costco to use for burgers and sandwiches and pretty much anything you use sliced cheese for. But when I was in a pinch and needed “fancy” cheese, I grabbed the pack and got creative.

It comes with Cheddar, Swiss, Colby Jack and Monterrey Jack, which are classic favorites.

I grabbed our wavy slicer and began cutting up the cheese slices and then layered them on the wooden board. I didn’t even worry about cutting all 4 sides!

You might remember these boards from my Galentine’s Day Party post. They are so versatile and can be used to display and serve pretty much anything. Including a Sweets & Strawberries board or this yummy cheese platter!

After layering the cut-up cheese slices, I added a cranberry goat cheese log, some pecans, dates and a small dish of fig spread. I typically have several bags of nuts in the pantry to use for yogurt toppings. And we always have a bag of dates and a jar of fig spread keep on-hand. The fig spread is an easy thing to grab from the fridge to set out with cheese and crackers with a small serving spreader.

And the dates I buy in bulk [at Costco!] and use for my Sweet & Spicy Bacon Wrapped Dates. I’ll be sharing this recipe next week, so be on the lookout! The dates keep for months and when you don’t have time to cook them with bacon, setting them out on your cheese platter is another simple touch!

If you don’t have the prosciutto and salami on-hand [or fig spread or dates] then just stick with a simple Cheese board using basic grocery store cheese! Any variety will do!

ITEMS ON MY ELEVATED CHEESE BOARD:

  • variety of cut-up cheeses
  • dates
  • fig spread
  • pecans [almonds or cashews would work too]
  • goat cheese

Think outside the box and use what you have. It doesn’t have to be an artfully curated board of specialty meats and cheeses. It can be as simple as using sliced cheese!

These cheese boards are an easy thing to take to our Flamingo Friday parties. It’s hot outside, but the cheese always goes quick! Probably because the kids dig into it, too!
