Sweet Summertime in the New House // 2022 Summer Home Tour

We are in full-on Summer mode over here since the boys got out of school before Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a miracle I was able to snap some pictures for the tour with the condition of the house with 3 boys home all day! I truly can’t believe July marks one year in Arizona for us. I’ll do a full before and after tour later this Summer but for now, here are the spaces I sprinkled a few Summer touches in. Welcome to our 2022 Summer Home Tour // Sweet Summertime in the New House.

Hello & welcome! Thank you to Marty of A Stroll Thru Life for organizing another wonderful week of Home Tours! I’m honored to be included for yet another season.

If you’re just stopping by today for the first time, hi, I’m Rachael, the voice behind the lifestyle blog, This is our Bliss. We picked up and moved from Illinois to Arizona last July after 10+ years there.

SWEET SUMMERTIME IN THE NEW HOUSE // 2022 SUMMER HOME TOUR

If you don’t know about the heat here in the desert, let me tell you. It. is. HOT! We are already around 105 degrees in early June and our temps will continue to climb between 115 and 120 this Summer. So unless you’re in the pool, you’re not doing much outside. With the kids home in between camps and playdates, I didn’t do much zhushing, but opted for a stripped-down simple Summer vibe.

Fresh flowers and clean spaces are what make me happy. And the “clean” or rather picked-up and clutter-free is a rarity, so I’m especially giddy when it lasts long enough to document it!

Let’s head into a few spaces and take a peek around…

SWEET SUMMERTIME IN THE DINING ROOM

I cleared everything off the table except for one small vase. I decided I wanted something other than fresh flowers in here, so I stepped out back and clipped a few palm branches and stuck them in the vase.

Something different for a change [since Palm trees weren’t exactly growing in our backyard in Illinois!] and I love the way it looks!

The Dining Room was just completed in January of this year during the New Year, New Room Refresh Challenge so it pretty much looks the same. I don’t plan to make any changes in here except for the occasional vase swap and tablescape set-up.

SWEET SUMMERTIME IN THE POWDER ROOM

I normally wouldn’t include a bathroom in my Summer Home Tour but I juuuust wrapped up this Powder Room project at the end of May, so felt it deserved a spot in the line-up. Plus the hot pink bougainvilleas are bright & Summer-y 🙂

I’m already brainstorming what space to work on in the Fall challenge. There are plenty of rooms I’d like to get my hands on as you can imagine being in a new house with lots of new ideas.

SWEET SUMMERTIME IN THE GUESTROOM

This room has been a slow and steady work-in-progress since we moved in. My desk sits in here so it is a dual-functioning office & guestroom.

We added a new [smaller] nightstand & lamp at the end of last Summer, a new rug last Fall & just recently hung the curtain rod & panels a couple of weeks ago.

You might remember that large art piece over the bed from the Guestroom in the last house, but I’d still like to create a gallery wall over my desk area [and tidy it up enough to photograph] sometime this year. Then it will be complete 🙂

SWEET SUMMERTIME IN THE KITCHEN / FAMILY ROOM

Our main hub is in the center of the main floor where the kitchen and family room are one large combined space. I gave the joint spaces a facelift last Fall during the ORC so not much has changed in here either.

Other than the painted backsplash!

Did you notice it’s black now? I know I owe you a full blog post on what we did, but let me assure you it looks 10x better than it did. I love the bold black against the white cabinets.

It feels much more “me” now.

Don’t you agree?!

The island, couch & coffee table have yet to be cleared off this Summer so I’ll call this a win. Prepping for a tour isn’t all bad…it really gets things snapped into shape in a hurry!

SWEET SUMMERTIME IN THE POOL

This is where you’ll find us every afternoon! Camps or lounging in the morning and then we head out here after lunch when we need to get out of the house for a break. The pool is the perfect temperature right now to take a dip and cool off.

A pool was one of our must-haves while house-hunting last Spring and we are sure glad to have one right about now.

If the kids aren’t in the pool, you’ll find them in the basement aka the frat house!

One of these days I’ll take you down to the basement and show you around, but that will probably be a few room challenges away 😉

I know we have a few more months of hot Summer heat, but with shorter Summer Breaks, we’ll be back to school in less than 6 weeks. Until then we’re going to be taking in all that Summer has to offer!
