DIY Dollar Store Mason Jar Mug in a Mitt Hostess Gift

Welcome to this month’s My Dollar Store DIY project! I’m channeling all the Spring I can get inside since the Midwest is a little late to the party outside. Escaping to Arizona for Spring Break this week sure helps to get me geared up and ready for warmer days ahead, too! My Dollar Store Holiday Hostess Gift [in a mitt] was such a hit last year that I decided to recreate a Spring version! It always seems the two busiest times of the year for entertaining and attending various parties are the holidays and when the weather warms up enough to grill and be outside! I like to have a little something ready to go when the time comes to run out the door to get together with friends and neighbors so I made a DIY Mason Jar Mug in a Mitt Hostess Gift to bring along!

This was super simple and can be modified in so many ways! The key again…grabbing a few supplies from Dollar Tree! You can beat a cute gift that only costs a few dollars. They’ll never even know!

SUPPLIES

mason jar mug
dish towel
oven mitt [the very same print can be found here and a similar here]
glass paint pens
crinkle cut paper shreds
ribbon [I used it to attach a Spring cocktail recipe card]

[All supplies were purchased at Dollar Tree except for the paint pens!]

DIRECTIONS

First, I decided I was going to paint flowers on the mugs. So I grabbed the green paint pen and drew my stems and leaves on one of the mason jar mugs.

I pulled inspiration from my Spring oven mitt for these flowers and simply drew curved lines with circles on top.

For the second flower, I started with a gold circle in the middle of the mason jar and then added five pink petals around it and filled them in. Next, I drew a stem and leaf and then added a green pointed “leaf” between each petal. Then, I took a purple paint pen and made tiny dots all around the petals.

The mugs only took a few minutes to dry, but I waited about 15 minutes before I filled the mug with crinkle paper shreds and placed it inside the mitt.

Since I found a cute hot pink dish towel at Dollar Tree I thought I would use this as a substitute for the tissue paper that I used in my first hostess gift mitt version. There wasn’t enough room behind the mason jar, so I laid it face-down and grabbed the towel in the middle to make a point. I placed the pointed, pinched part inside the mason jar mug and then fanned out the dish towel to make it look nice.

Oven mitts and dish towels ALWAYS come in handy, especially for hostesses who entertain a crowd of guests in the kitchen, but decided that a yummy, cold Springtime cocktail might come in pretty handy too!

So I printed off a super simple recipe using Grapefruit La Croix [which I also found at Dollar Tree] and attached it with ribbon to the loop on the mitt.

It was ready to roll and no gift bag necessary!

I’ll share the details on the cocktail when we return home! Although I’m 25 weeks pregnant and mine would be a mocktail version, I have yet to give my bar cart a Spring refresh [you can see last year’s here] and am thinking this recipe would be great to share then!

Don’t forget to check out what the other girls whipped up around the house for their Springtime projects – and again…for only a few bucks!!
